Greg
At California Dreamin’, we believe in the transformative power of lived experience, and Greg, our treasurer, exemplifies this belief. Greg’s journey is one of resilience, courage, and a commitment to recovery, marked by life-changing events that have shaped his passion for supporting others facing similar struggles.
Greg’s story began with a near-fatal accident in Hayes, Kansas, just as he was preparing to start a new chapter with his family. He was airlifted to a hospital in Wichita in a combative unconscious state, and after 11 days of intensive treatment, he was referred to Columbia Medical College for further care. During his recovery, Greg faced the unexpected discovery of four nails embedded in his scalp and endured significant physical and neurological challenges, including a traumatic brain injury (TBI). However, with encouragement from his doctor, who assured him that healing was possible despite the long road ahead, Greg embraced his journey toward recovery.
Moving to California with his family, Greg navigated the complexities of the disability system, eventually securing Section 8 housing and medical support. Today, he lives in Santa Cruz, managing multiple health conditions, including 11 skeletal and five intestinal issues, along with his TBI. Despite these ongoing challenges, Greg’s experience has given him a profound empathy and understanding for others in need, fueling his dedication to California Dreamin’.
Greg’s lived experience allows him to bring a unique and compassionate perspective to our mission. He understands firsthand the importance of accessible support and the strength it takes to rebuild one’s life. As treasurer, he is committed to ensuring that California Dreamin’ can continue to offer hope and help to those navigating their own recovery journeys, grounded in the belief that with time, support, and determination, healing is within reach.
